A Precise Estimate of the Radius of the Exoplanet HD 149026b from Spitzer Photometry

چکیده
We present Spitzer 8 μm transit observations of the extrasolar planet HD 149026b. At this wavelength, transit light curves are weakly affected by stellar limb-darkening, allowing for a simpler and more accurate determination of planetary parameters. We measure a planet-star radius ratio of Rp/R⋆ = 0.05158± 0.00077, and in combination with ground-based data and independent constraints on the stellar mass and radius, we derive an orbital inclination of i = 85. 4 +0. ◦ 9 −0. 8 and a planet radius of Rp = 0.755±0.040 RJ . These measurements further support models in which the planet is greatly enriched in heavy elements. Subject headings: stars: planetary systems — techniques: photometric

Near-infrared Transit Photometry of the Exoplanet Hd 149026b
The transiting exoplanet HD 149026b is an important case for theories of planet formation and planetary structure, because the planet’s relatively small size has been interpreted as evidence for a highly metal-enriched composition. We present observations of 4 transits with the Near Infrared Camera and Multi-Object Spectrometer on the Hubble Space Telescope within a wavelength range of 1.1–2.0 ...

متن کاملAnalysis of Exoplanetary Transit Light Curves
This Thesis considers the scenario in which an extra-solar planet (exoplanet) passes in front of its star relative to our observing perspective. In this event, the light curve measured for the host star features a systematic drop in flux occurring once every orbital period as the exoplanet covers a portion of the stellar disk. This exoplanetary transit light curve provides a wealth of informati...
متن کاملELODIE metallicity - biased search for transiting Hot Jupiters ⋆ II . A very hot Jupiter transiting the bright K star HD 189733
Among the 160 known exoplanets, mainly detected in large radial-velocity surveys, only 8 have a characterization of their actual mass and radius thanks to the two complementary methods of detection: radial velocities and photometric transit. We started in March 2004 an exoplanet-search programme biased toward high-metallicity stars which are more frequently host extra-solar planets. This survey...
متن کاملTHE BROADBAND INFRARED EMISSION SPECTRUM OF THE EXOPLANET HD 189733b
We present Spitzer Space Telescope time series photometry of the exoplanet system HD 189733 spanning two times of secondary eclipse, when the planet passes out of view behind the parent star. We estimate the relative eclipse depth in 5 distinct bands and find the planet-to-star flux ratio to be 0.256±0.014% (3.6 μm), 0.214±0.020% (4.5 μm), 0.310 ± 0.034% (5.8 μm), 0.391 ± 0.022% (8.0 μm), and 0...
